Recognizing Signs and Symptoms of Mental Illness in Youth and Adults

Thu., Apr

Description

Recognizing Signs and Symptoms of Mental Illness

The general population often has limited knowledge and misconceptions regarding behavioral health disorders in both children and adults. This can lead to increased stigma surrounding behavioral health disorders as well as delayed treatment. For many individuals with behavioral health disorders, delaying treatment may lead to an increase in symptom severity, an increase in risk factors for safety, and a lower general quality of life. By educating health workers, educators, practitioners, and the general public, it is the hope that the community can begin to combat the stigma against behavioral health disorders. As well as supporting those experiencing symptoms in getting connected to the resources and interventions they deserve.

This presentation will be led by Emily Dreher. Emily Dreher is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Linehan Board Certified DBT Clinician with clinical experience providing outpatient therapy and in home crisis counseling. Her specialties include working with individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder using Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Prolonged Exposure. Emily is also an Adjunct Lecturer in the Applied Health Behavior Research graduate program at Washington University.

Behavioral Health professionals may apply for up to 3 CEUs.
